8. War Hammer

Other war hammer designs may be a bit more difficult to make because they require you to weld, drill, and file. This is one of the easiest homemade weapons. You need nothing more than a black pipe.

It’s a simple design, and the name says it all. Don’t underestimate the power of the war hammer!

9. Saw Blade Tomahawk

As you can probably tell already, this is one unique homemade saw blade weapon. The name leaves little to the imagination when it comes to what this thing can do.

You can use the screen of an old TV to make a DIY death ray.

14. Pipe Gun

This is another one of the most classic homemade weapons anyone can build. Using a few items from your garage, you can make your own pipe gun. Remember, though, there’s a risk in making one, so please be careful.

Don’t mindlessly test this by shooting someone or something as it can hurt you and other people.

15. Laser-Guided Blowgun

This improvised weapon is so easy to make yet can be extremely reliable and powerful especially when SHTF. For this project, you’ll need a 1/2 inch PVC pipe, glue gun, sticky notes, wire nails, and duct tape.

Adding a dollar-store laser made this DIY project one of the coolest homemade weapons ever created!

You don’t always need firearms to feel safe. These homemade weapons will suffice for home protection and outdoor survival trips. But don’t forget to be extra careful in making these, especially when you are testing them.

These are still weapons, and there’s always a possibility of getting hurt while making them. Take extra measures to keep yourself safe and injury-free.

I wouldn’t make the pipe gun. Because it could blow up on you.

Pipe Gun – Did it work? Why no video of test fire? I would be somewhat concerned of standard galvanized pipe surviving more than a couple shots, stock and barrel remaining firmly attached and mostly with where the firing pin/nail ends up – off-the-shelf tapered pipe threads do not allow you to union the pipe and plug close together!!

H questions about used plastic milk cartons, can you store sugar, flour, cornmeal yeast, and other bulk items in them? Several ?s, where can one get answers to specific, not generalizes, questons?

    • Raychel

I actually use 2 liter soda bottles to store bulk food items in, once I have rinsed them out of course. I just drop in an oxygen absorbent packet before closing it up if I plan on storing it for a while. Milk jugs are very hard to get completely clean, and the milk proteins that you may not be able to completely remove will spoil your food items. Better safe than sorry; especially when storing food for emergency situations and the price of food these days.

Instead of gallon milk jugs, you could use Gallon water jugs. Same size and shape, no enzymes to cause food going bad. Just my 2 pennies worth.

        Good luck.

I use thicker walled gallon water jugs, or Chick-fil-A tea jugs, after I’ve drank The contents, of course. To ensure I’ve gotten everything out, Ifill them half-way with tap water as hot as I can get it, shake vigorously and empty, then refill to the absolute top with water just cold enough not to melt the jug, and let it sit until cool. Empty and repeat, now you have an absolutely clean jug, I always dry upside down for a couple of days, just to be doublely sure. Then you have storage with a handle, that you can tie 550 cord through to carry multiple, hang, lift up a cliff, etc…

I don’t know… but 2 liter pop bottle work fine and you can store staples such as rice and beans and much more..

    April 13, 2014 at 2:51 AM

If you use iron pipe for any of these projects, keep in mind that this material rusts faster than anything else on earth, so you should clean it with some degreaser and PAINT it immediately. A few bucks worth of Rustoleum or some of that plastic-based paint will go a long way to keep it usable. On the un-paintable parts, like the inside of that gun barrel, be generous with a coat of oil that you replenish occasionally (unless you shoot it regularly).

As far as using black pipe as a gun barrel … it has been done and used before, but it would probably be a good idea to reinforce that barrel with something else, especially if you plan on using it a lot during the zombie apocalypse. You can wrap it with a later or two of steel wire, and then wrap it with heavy duct tape, to keep it from doing serious damage if that barrel turns into a banana, which could happen if you are shooting heavy shotgun slugs or buckshot, esp. from the longer shot shells, and even more especially if you use a rather long barrel, where the energy of the explosion inside has more time and room to build up.

    • Smoke Hill Farm

      April 13, 2014 at 3:03 AM

I just noticed that the one improvised weapon seemed to use regular gray iron pipe instead of black iron pipe (the kind usually used for gas connections instead of water connections).

I have heard MANY times that the black pipe is the only acceptable one for improvised weapons since it is a different category of pipe and MUCH MUCH stronger than the regular water-pipe stuff.

The difference in cost is small. Be sure to get the BLACK iron pipe, unless you want to risk it blowing up in your face !!!!!!!

a trebuchet would be the most impractical weapon. I couldn’t see any situation one would need to use this, let alone transport it to be used.

    • Left CoastChuck

      July 31, 2014 at 11:01 PM

For neighborhood defense, a trebuchet is a most practical weapon. You have barricades up at the entrance to your neighborhood. You want heavy artillery zeroed in on your barricades. The trebuchet can throw short pieces of log, it can throw heavy rocks, most importantly, it an throw bundles of burning material. Consider the effect on bad guys trying to breach your entrance barricade when bundles of burning, dried out weeds start raining down on them. Because of its high arc, a trebuchet can drop loads behind a barricade that flat trajectory weapons cannot penetrate. Loaded on a trailer, the trebuchet can also be made into a mobile launcher. If you study pictures of medieval sieges, the trebuchets were wheeled in order to be mobile. They were used to throw objects over the walls of fortified positions, much like a mortar or howitzer does today. As another bulletin said, in a desperate situation, your mind is your best weapon. Think, plan, adjust.

      • Anonymous

        October 28, 2017 at 11:11 AM

The wheels on a trebuchet help with stabity of the device when using a fixed counter weight they allow the machine to roll slightly back and forth but not flip or tear itself apart (so don’t chalk the wheels). If your using a bucket type counter weight, the wheels would be strictly for mobility. The bucket drops, and won’t flip your siege engine.

If you use pipe liik for schedule 60 or 80 it has thicker walls and is thus stronger than common schedule 40 commonly sold in big box stores

  13. Zach

    July 26, 2014 at 4:01 AM

Be careful with the pipe gun. That is a textbook example of a “zip gun” and is restricted in a lot of states (including pro gun states like Texas). Other places restrict catapults and trebuchets just the same as they ban stuff like slingshots. And flamethrowers are illegal in ten states (it’s only a misdemeanor). Check your local laws before making stuff like this.

    • Nunya

      April 8, 2018 at 1:47 PM

Laws don’t mean anything all a Law is is for sheeple for 1 for 2 a law is nothing more than one human and a bunch of his anus sucking sheeple who don’t like something so they go out to try and control everyone with their power happy control freak B.S.. Anyways if your having to use this stuff for survival then that means your on your own and laws don’t mean a Fing thing anymore. In which they shouldn’t anyways. As long as you are not hurting someone else or someone elses property nobody has a right to tell anyone what they may or may not own, have, or make PERIOD.

      • Marcus Audens

        April 23, 2018 at 2:43 PM

Nunya: That may well be your opinion of laws in general, however, when you violate one, and the men in the blue suit come to take you away, your opinions will not matter much. Your expression of your views does not rank you with the top class of citizens either, or one with whom I would care to deal with! However, you are correct, when anyone is put to survival because of the lack of any further public administration, then laws from that previous administration don’t mean much either. I guess it depends on what situation you find yourself in! All the best luck with your views and how you carry them out! Respectfully; Marcus Audens

The guns made from galv. pipe do work well in a pinch, but the person making them can make it a better, safer gun with a little effort. We used to call them “Zip Guns”You can make just about any cal. you can find pipe for,we made 22 cal. out of trans. line, you just have to offset your firing pin for rim fire, but this should be a weapon of last resort,of course yall know that.

Every one of the guns WILL WORK AND WORK WELL IN YOU NO A LITTLE BIT ABOUT STEEL AND pipe shotgun is the best know your PSI pressures that can the pipe can hold so that means you need to know the molecular structure of the steel or pipe and then you convert cup to psi and you can make something to last for a lifetime and shoot it thousands of times

While Pipe is ok, stainless steel tubing is a better option for a homemade firearm. It is available with heavy wall thicknesses that allows it a much higher PSI rating than the same OD size pipe. While tubing is measured in OD (outside diameter) Pipe is measured in ID (inside diameter) so the same OD size tubing can have a larger wall thickness than the same OD size pipe thus affording it higher PSI ratings. I don’t know much about making homemade firearms but I do know tubing and piping.

It seems that this site is about survival wshf. Trust me, unless you prepare, you and your family will be a a victim. Unless you have actually been in a survival situation you don’t know what will actually happen. Myself being a Vietnam vet I can tell you personally, you better be prepared.
When your electricity goes, when your supplies run out, when you can’t get any medication, when people go hungry they will kill you for a slice of bread! If you can find any supplies available it will probably go to the highest bidder but most likely it will go to groups who take it and kill you to do it and this could include you who think this site is a joke. If you watched The “Walking Dead” series is just an example of what can and what will happen.
