Manufacturers of Underground Bunkers Can’t Keep Up With Supply

More than ever before, Preppers are exploring underground bunkers as an integral part of their Bug Out plans. However, supply seems to be running out due to the demand. Let’s discuss more below!

Underground Bunkers in Hot Demand Right Now

Between terrorism, EMP attacks, nuclear war, and civil unrest, the threats to society and life as we know it just keep on coming. Prepping food and water supply is great, but what good will that supply be if your home is destroyed in a massive explosion?

Thanks to overwhelming interest by high-end clientele, underground bunkers are more sophisticated and stylish than ever before. You can still purchase a small, basic, and affordable model, but your options for upgrades and size are almost unlimited.

Did you know that entire cities are being built underground that you can purchase an apartment in?

There are a lot of factors to consider when shopping for your underground bunker, and some will seem ridiculous to the average Prepper. But for those with access to significant funding, they will have to really consider how they’d like to spend their time underground.

Questions to Ask Yourself

Before you get too far into your bunker shopping, ask yourself the following questions so that you stay within your parameters.

  • What is your budget?
  • How many people will be living in your bunker?
  • Do you prefer to shelter in a community?
  • Can you travel to reach a community shelter quickly?
  • Will the bunker be installed on your property?

It’s easy to fall in love with some of the options that are out there. But if they aren’t within your budget, or if they were built somewhere you can’t get to quickly, you’ll want to consider other options.

Features to Look For

While it’s true that having a zoo, golf course, lagoons, and museum would all help pass the time while living underground, the fact is that these are luxuries and not essentials. For those that are investing in an end-of-world insurance plan, what you really want to look for are:

  • NBC air filtration system (NBC: nuclear, biological, chemical)
  • Plumbing system
  • Electrical system
  • Access to off-grid well
  • Generator
  • Storage space
  • Steel door
  • Room to stand up fully

Price Points

So you’ve figured out who’s coming with you and how you’ll get there: now, how much will it cost you? The good news is that for as little as $7,500 you can reserve yourself a bunk in a community shelter (with a $50 monthly maintenance fee).

If you’re set on burying the shelter right in your backyard for private use, you can purchase a base model for under $20,000. There are even smaller and less expensive options available, but they are intended for use during severe storms and are not recommended for living in.

Depending on your preferences and budget, you can find options at $60,000; $325,000; $700,000; and even $2.5 million price points.
