It is such a wonderous and blithe occasion that definitely needs to be celebrated. But the celebration would be even better if we know that we are safe and secured.

New year’s eve is best enjoyed with different types alcohols so it means that there are a lot of people intoxicated. And you know what happens to people when they have a few too many. One loses control and may end up harming other people or their own selves. You can neither be too complacent nor too trusting especially when you’re in a party where people you know nothing about surrounds you. If you’re a group going out for the evening then designate a driver, preferably before your plans begin. If you have a friend that prefers not to drink then that person would be a perfect choice. You can’t be all drunk at the same time and drive a car. That is clearly a recipe for disaster. Assign a friend that will take you home safely. And if you’re the designated driver of the group then don’t drink too much, you have a responsibility so be stone cold sober as much as possible.

2. Consider Public Transportation

If you don’t have to drive, then don’t. There will be tons of people on the road (some of them will be under the influence, unfortunately) so, public transportation is always a better and safer choice. Just be mindful of your surroundings.

There might be someone with bad intentions lurking in every street corner and alleys taking advantage of occasions with a lot of people roaming the streets such as new year’s eve. They see it as an opportunity to rob someone. So be careful when riding public transportations and be alert at all times.

3. Have Those Important Phone Numbers Ready

Here are some important phone numbers that you will possibly need for the evening. These are phone numbers that are always great to have on you, no matter what, so store these numbers into your cell phone before going out:

• Roadside Assistance. This phone number can usually be found on the back of your driver’s license and on your car insurance I.D. card.

• Sober Ride. The National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA) has created a listing of sober/safe ride programs across the country. Find one in your area, and save the number in your cell phone to always have it on you.

• A close friend or relative.

4. Stick Together and Be Alert

Going out to parties and nightclubs can make for a fast-paced evening, so be sure to travel in groups. Having a safety net around you in this environment is imperative.
