FOOD SCARCITY: Supermarkets in France to Give Unsold Food to Charities
One of the biggest concerns among preppers is food security. Many of the problems that cause food scarcity around the world could happen here.
While the world produces enough food, it often does not get to the people who need it. One of the biggest problems, especially in the industrial world, is food waste. Whether it never makes it to market because it doesn't look right, or gets thrown out because it was forgotten at the back of a fridge, almost a third of the food produced in the U.S. is wasted.
This is an area where France is starting to make some big changes. Recently “ugly food” stores have been making an effort to reduce food waste by selling produce that's deemed too ugly to sell in traditional grocery stores. Now the French government is taking action. Large supermarkets that have unspoiled food the plan to throw out will now have to be given to charities.

The law will also introduce an education programme about food waste in schools and businesses. It follows a measure in February to remove the best-before dates on fresh foods.
The measures are part of wider drive to halve the amount of food waste in France by 2025. According to official estimates, the average French person throws out 20kg-30kg of food a year – 7kg of which is still in its wrapping. The combined national cost of this is up to €20bn.
Do you think this will help reduce food waste? Should America do something similar? Let us know in the comments.

Would be great to do the same as France – so much food is wasted and terrible things happen when the homeless have to dig through dumpsters to get to eat a meal or one thing all day maybe for a few days and it is rotten. GOD forbid America if they don’t change in more ways than this one!!

Insurance companies in America wouldn’t allow it. I can hear it now, “What if someone got sick & sued?” We need to get rid of insurance companies–they run this country.

Well done the French, they maybe can’t fight for sh1t but by heck there are times when they certainly make sense! the only problem would be regulating it – the entitlement brigade would most of it for themselves, better than working for a living (there again most of them don’t anyway!)
