In May 2011 Joplin, Missouri was hit by an EF5 tornado, killing over 150 people and causing millions of dollars in damage. It was one of the deadliest tornadoes on record.

By studying the weather data and the experiences of the survivors, we can learn a lot. We are becoming better at predicting where severe weather will strike. We’re also learning what steps we can take to improve our chances of survival.
