As one of the ultimate survival tips, the pill bottle has many uses.

Ultimate Survival Tips | Thrive with the Help of a Pill Bottle

1. Survival Kit

One of the ultimate survival tips is to bring a survival kit anywhere you go. It may include the following:

  • Pill bottle
  • Matches
  • Birthday candles
  • Fire straws
  • Button
  • Mini red finger flashlight
  • Index card
  • Safety pins
  • Dental floss
  • Neosporin straws
  • Tweezers
  • Ibuprofen
  • Allergy medication
  • Cotton balls
  • Alcohol wipes
  • Band-Aids
  • Money
  • Aluminum foil

You can put anything you want in there as long as it fits. If you need extra storage, though, you can always count on a pill bottle.

Your survival kit is far from being the ultimate bug out bag, but what it contains can help you in emergencies. Those pill bottles, meanwhile, can organize the clutter. They’re also handy and take up little space.

Remember, knowledge is your best survival tool. Everything else is just helpful!

What Is a Survival Kit? It’s a collection of equipment and supplies necessary in times of emergencies or difficult situations such as disasters.

2. First Aid Kit

Accidents can happen anytime. When you’re out there in the wilderness, for example, you can have bruises and scrapes.

One of the emergency survival tips is to have a first-aid kit with you at all times. After all, you can’t afford to go out with a fresh wound due to the risk of infection.

If you need something portable, use your pill bottle. Add the following items:

  • Alcohol prep pad
  • Iodine prep pad
  • Non-aspirin pain relievers
  • Anti-inflammatory drugs such as Aleve
  • Alka-Seltzer

Bring a pair of needle and thread too for the deep cuts.

Tip: First aid is only an initial medical help. See a doctor for further assessment and treatment.

3. Sewing Kit

Pill bottles have so many uses! For example, they can turn your never-ending search for a particular crafting item into short work.

Learning how to sew, on the other hand, is one of the necessary survival skills. With it, you can repair zippers and backpack straps. You may even make some basic clothes or reinforce a tent.

4. Waterproof Money Container

Another of the ultimate survival tips is to always carry around money.

You cannot use automated teller machines (ATMs) or credit cards all the time such as during disasters.

Money is easy to keep. You can place it inside your pockets or purses, but it may get wet in certain situations.

What you need then is a waterproof container such as a pill bottle. Here are the supplies you need:

  • Pill bottle
  • E-6000 glue
  • Goo Gone adhesive remover
  • Nylon cord
  • Drill or a large screw

A pill bottle has the perfect shape and size for hiding a spare key. To make the key not as obvious, glue a rock on top of the bottle.

Bury the bottle in an inconspicuous spot, making sure the rock is at the top. This way, it’s easy for you to grab the container and retrieve the key.

6. Ammo Storage

No list of ultimate survival tips will be complete without mentioning self-defense. When push comes to shove, you may need to have a weapon like a gun with you.

While you’re not still using it, though, you have to keep it safe. Store your ammo in a pill bottle to prevent it from getting wet and out of reach of children.

Doing this will also help organize your ammunition. You don’t have to deal with loose ones in your pocket.

7. Battery Storage

Place batteries inside for cool, dry storage and easy access when needed. It’s always a plus to have an alternative source of energy outside your solar-powered equipment.

8. Seed Collecting and Storage

One of the ultimate survival tips is to learn to grow your food.

An empty pill bottle makes good seed storage. You can keep different seed variants in case there’s a shortage in the food supply. For starters, here are the easiest vegetables to grow:

  • Carrots
  • Cucumbers
  • Kale
  • Lettuce
  • Pumpkins
  • Squash

9. Pill Bottle Fire Starter

Starting a fire is one of the basic ultimate survival tips. With it, you can keep yourself warm, light up an area, and cook meals.

When you’re in the wilderness, starting a fire is easy with this kit. If, for some reason, you cannot have it, then build your own.

Here’s a tutorial on how to create a DIY fire starter kit. Make it a fun and easy project to do with your kids.

I use those “camel snus tins for my 22 longs you can fit 45 to 50 each in one of those tins, they are flat and for me easy to put in your pocket or pack.

Have you ever come across any corrosion issues? I’m just thinking 2 different metals rolling around in a tin might cause some concern. I know they don’t roll around when they’re full, but after you remove a few……..

Certain gum company that goes the “extra” mile, sells value packages. They can be reused for storing multiple items. Especially small items. Or paperwork even.

A 35mm film can, (they are still available if you ask at a place that develops film) are just the right size for quarters and are also water-proof, I think. Smaller than the pill containers, but just as useful.. I have dozens, some clear and some grey. They work well for all kinds of stuff from matches ( may have to cut them down a bit) to .22’s to a pack of cotton soaked vaseline balls. Same as above, just in a smaller container when that makes sense/

35mm Film containers not waterproof, much to dismay of dopers who toss them when the cops come.

If they are shut correctly they ARE waterproof. I have carried coffee, matches, tang and many other things in them while backpacking. Even fell into a river while crossing terribly built bridge….soaked to the skin but was able to start a fire and coffee to get dry and warm.

Thanks! You just gave me an idea! As a coffeeholic I can put a couple of those instant stick packs, packets of creamer, & equal. Some stirrers & viola! I’m good to go!

I use some of my pill bottles to put dryer lint in for firestarting. And I put one of the little dry packs that comes in the pills on top to help control any moisture.

Since I seem to only be prescribed “horse pills” most of my script bottles are HUGE! So I can get a lot of stuff in there. In one I have a small bic lighter, bandaids of various sizes (3-4), sample packs of neosporin, Tylenol,& betadine , pr. of latex gloves, face mask, alum. foil, small razor blade, tweezers, cotton balls, q-tips, & the outside is wrapped with paracord to use as a tourniquet. Just realized I should put some needle and thread in there!

Holy moly that’s a good list, I don’t have “horse pill” bottles but the big bottles of vitamins will probably do the trick. Thanks for the idea!

There are many clever uses here, some I have done and some I plan to. Another simple use is to pour 1:1 parts white vinegar and rubbing alcohol into a clean medicine bottle. I keep an eye dropper in another, wrapped in a paper towel half. I toss this in with swimming gear & apply a few drops in each ear after swimming to prevent swimmer’s ear. I keep another one w/ just alcohol to remove poison ivy toxin and another w/ just vinegar to neutralize insect bites.
