Review of the Schrade SCHA4BG Pocket Knife
There are so many knives on the market today and each has its own set of pro’s and cons.
I could sit in a room full of knives for a month and never review all of them.
Luckily, I know people like my friend Javan, who are willing to help out!
He recently got a new Schrade and wanted to share his thoughts on it:
My Schrade SCHA4BG came sharp enough out of the box to slice paper.
The spring assisted opening as well as the safety for it never failed.
I really like how there is a thumb groove on the back of the blade itself to allow for more leverage and control.
The weight and size are great and well balanced. Here’s my two reasons why I gave it a 4 out of 5: 1.
The thumb knob on the blade seems to take a little bit too much pressure to open the knife.
I think it’s because you have to place your thumb at a weird angle and could be fixed if the knob isn’t as close to the handle of the knife when the blade is closed. 2. Maybe I have fat fingers or a big hand, but it’s slightly uncomfortable when tightly gripping the handle of the knife.
A few more centimeters added on or a bit less of a curve where the pinkie goes would be perfect. Again, those two things are minor. I would still highly recommend this knife.

My EDC is a Schrade, I think I bought it back in 1995. Great Made in USA knife. The serrated saw blade for the last inch has been a good tool for cutting tough nylon rope and twigs/branches.

I HAVE A SURVIAL KNIFE SIMILAR TO THIS ONE, IT OPENS THE SAME WAY. IT WAS HARD TO OPEN WITH THE FINGER TAB. SO I LOOSENED UP THE BOLT THAT HOLDS THE BLADE AND USED SOME LITE GUN LUBE IN BETWEEN THE BLADE END AND HANDEL. IT FLICKS OPEN VERY EASALLY, EVEN THE THUMB LUG IS NOT HARD TO OPEN. IT HAS THE SEAT BELT CUTTER AND THE POINTED PUNCH FOR BREAKING GLASS. IT’S A SMITH AND WESSON. MADE IN THE USA. RAZOR SHARP, WITH A SERAYTED BACK PART OF THE BLADE.

Schrade makes some nice knives. I’m a big fan of the Schrade Nitro with a Tanto style blade – reviewed at http://www.edcknifereviews.com/schrade/
I never thought I’d like the “exotic” Tanto-style blade, but after using it for awhile, it’s actually become my EDC knife.
