I love coming across new life hacks online.
These hacks are great for preppers and survivalists because they help us keep our improvisation skills sharp. You never know when you’ll have to make a tool or gadget out of just the things you have on hand.
You’ll be surprised that rubber bands can be quite useful. They’re extremely versatile and almost everyone has a pile of them sitting in a drawer in their house.
10 Simple Rubber Band Life Hacks
Looking for a use for all those extra rubber bands you have lying around? Check out these rubber band life hacks from one of our favorite gurus, the Crazy Russian Hacker.
1. Paint Scraper
2. Prevent Wine Glasses from Breaking in the Dishwasher
Use a rubber band to secure and protect wine glasses on your dishwasher by holding the glass down on the rack.
You can see it’s not moving around too much.
This works perfectly as well with champagne glasses.
3. Keep Clothes from Falling off Hangers
To solve the problem of clothes falling off of your hangers, take two rubber bands for each end.
Wrap them three times close to the end so they can hold the fabric in place.
Now clothes will not fall off your hanger so easily.
4. Keep Your Apple Slices Together
After cutting an apple with a slicer, secure all the pieces together with a rubber band.
Come lunch break, just remove the rubber band and enjoy.
Not only does it make it easier to transport the apple as a “whole”, it also prevents it from browning.
5. Remove a Stripped Screw
A screw head in this condition will not be easy to remove.
To solve this problem, use a rubber band.
Just place a band in between the screw head and the screwdriver tip, the rubber will increase the grip and make it possible to unscrew.
6. Beer Marker
When you invite friends over for a party, help them distinguish which beer bottle is theirs by giving them a different colored rubber band to wrap around their own bottle.
When the bottle is empty, simply remove your rubber band and wrap it around a new cold one.
7. Stop Ribbons from Unraveling
Stop rolls of ribbon from unraveling all the time by securing them in place with a rubber band.
This also prevents them from getting tangled up with other rolls when they are packed together in a box.
8. Open Stubborn Jars
Opening jars can be a struggle when you do not have a firm grip or the jar is too tightly shut from the factory.
Put a rubber band over the lid to provide you with a better grip and make it finally possible for you to open that jar.
It’s much easier to open now.
Let’s try it on the dreaded pickle jar.
9. Stop Chopping Boards from Slipping
Prevent chopping boards from spinning especially while chopping by placing rubber bands on two ends of the board.
They will provide grip and make it stop sliding.
10. Keep a Door from Locking
When you need to step out but do not want the door to automatically lock behind you, use a rubber band to keep it open.
Anchor one end on the inside knob, stretch it and anchor the other end to the outside knob, pushing the bolt inwards and keeping it unlocked.
This way, even if the door is closed, it does not lock you out. In fact, it’s so easy to open, your dog can do it!
