I have a confession to make…

I have an addiction…to peanut butter.

I like anything with peanut butter in it or on it. I don’t know what it is about the stuff but I can’t get enough of it.

When TSHTF it would be one of the first creature comforts that I would have a craving for and I would pay quite dearly for it. As trivial as it sounds, I never really gave much thought to a world without peanut butter until I went to a survival expo and was greeted with free samples of peanut butter cookies.

I had crammed three of four of the bite sized morsels into my gullet before I even stopped to think; What do these have to do with survival?

The nice lady behind the counter informed me that they had been made with using only powdered ingredients. I never would have thought of making powdered peanut butter. I couldn’t believe that a cookie that good could come from canned powdered ingredients so I asked if I could sample the peanut butter by itself.

It was dry, and gritty, but once it started to rehydrate on my tongue, it turned out to be one of the best tasting peanut butters that I have ever had.

I ended up taking home the biggest can of it that she had. Let’s just say that my wife was not too happy with it, until I made her a fresh batch of my own peanut butter cookies.

The thought of using powdered peanut butter never crossed my mind and I couldn’t have imagined it would taste this good and with a shelf life of up to 30 years it has earned a place on the top shelf of my survival food cache.
