Product Review: The 5.11 Tactical Duty Kilt

Published

on

Centuries ago, the Scottish Highlanders devised a series of games in order to provide adequate training to soldiers while under the rule of the British Crown. Known as the Highlander Games, Scottish soldiers were not allowed to train with arms, so they made up for it with regular competition.  Today those who compete in the Highlander Games continue wearing traditional Scottish kilts, making the kilts the most notably recognized garment of the tradition.

Fortunately, today 5.11 Tactical provides Tactical Duty Kilts so you too can train under the same traditions as the Scottish Highlanders but in a modern style!

Tactical Duty Kilt Construction

The Tactical Duty Kilt by 5.11 Tactical is made from lightweight Taclite ripstop fabric and includes reinforced triple-stitching at all the major stress points of the kilt.  The TDK also includes a TEFLON finish that helps to repel liquids of all types keeping your Tactical Duty Kilt looking nice no matter what kind of weather you may endure or accidents you might encounter.

Two slanted pockets are included on either side of the kilt, allowing easy access for everyday carry items such as keys and wallets, as well as two interchangeable cargo style pockets capable of carrying both rifle and pistol magazines.

The 5.11 Tactical Duty Kilt also includes:

-6.14 oz polyester and cotton Taclite ripstop fabric

-Reinforced stitching

-Interchangeable cargo style pockets capable of carrying up to 90 rounds

While Out in the Field

While out in the field, the 5.11 Tactical Duty Kilt holds true to its name. Designed so that minimal exposure occurs while running, crouching, or even lying prone the TDK allows for extreme maneuverability and agility. The lowest edge of the Tactical Kilt falls just at the knee, allowing the wearer no restrictions when utilizing leg or thigh holsters or knives attached to the boot. Additionally, the cargo style pockets can be interchanged, compensating for both left and right-handed shooters, whether they would like rifle magazines or pistol magazines closer to their reach.

The 5.11 Tactical Duty Kilt also compliments multiple types of gear. Whether utilizing a combat belt, chest rig, or even a fully loaded plate carrier, the TDK is ready to go.  The flexibility of the Tactical Duty Kilt allows for ambidextrous movement while wearing a combat belt when reaching for both your sidearm and pistol magazines as well as wearing a chest rig.  The 5.11 Tactical Duty Kilt comes in a variety of colors including various pattern options to match your purpose, theme, and terrain for combat.

5.11 Tactical

For every Tactical Duty Kilt sold, 5.11 Tactical donates $10 to the FBINAA Charitable Foundation as well as the We Salute You Veterans Foundation in order to help assist veterans adjusting back to civilian life.  5.11 Tactical is very involved in their community as well as ensuring that returning veterans have a solid leg to stand on once reentering into the civilian world.

Looks fantastic. When can I order one? Beets the pack with built in carrier for a rifle that only fits a few rifles. This will make it much easier to carry and keep your hands free to use what ever you need in a bug out.
