Survival shelters can be built according to your location, the weather and the materials available. In a survival situation, ultimately your skills are more important than your gear. Gear can be lost or stolen, but your skills will always be with you. If you have the right skills, you can survive, with or without your gear.

That’s why we’re bringing you this video series from California Survival School on how to build primitive survival shelters. The ability to build shelter from only the materials around you can make the difference between life and death if you get caught in the wilderness without modern equipment.

In part 1, you’ll learn about the importance of regulating body temperature for survival, and how to build a shelter that will keep you at that optimal 98.6 degrees.

In part 2, you’ll learn how to build the bed of your shelter so that you’ll be well-insulated from the ground and have enough room to sleep comfortably.

Being outdoors is always fun, especially when you are camping out. But there are also times when you have to bug out, that is leave home and head for the mountains to try and survive some disaster or any other disruptive event. The adventure can be appealing, however when night falls and the cold sets in, you need to build a shelter. You do not want to get hypothermia. In the survival rule of threes, you could die within 3 hours if you do not have shelter. Due to this fact, try to have a decent shelter before sundown or as soon as possible. This way you can get enough rest in relative comfort and be able to live and fight for another day.
