Terrorist attacks have been all over the news lately.

With two of the biggest terrorist attacks in recent history happening within a few weeks of each other (in Paris, France and San Bernadino, California), self defense has been at the forefront of many people's minds.

In the video below, Sheriff Wayne Ivey of Brevard County, Florida explains why you need to be prepared for an active shooter scenario, and what you can do to protect yourself.

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey: Be Ready And Be Armed For An Active Shooter Incidents

Arm Yourself

Sheriff Ivey emphasizes the importance of protecting ourselves, naming the enemy and standing together as a country to fight the threat of foreign and domestic terrorism. He encourages every man and woman to get their concealed carry license and have a weapon on their person at all times.

If You Don't Have a Weapon

Realistically, we know that not everyone will have a weapon on them all the time. If you find yourself unarmed in an active shooter scenario, Sheriff Ivey recommends the following course of action.

Run: Think beforehand about how to escape. Don't stop to collect your things. Warn others to stop them from entering the dangerous area.
Hide: Get out of view, preferably behind a locked, barricaded door. Silence your cell phone. Stay quiet. Wait for first responders to arrive on the scene.
Fight: If you are unable to escape, you will be forced to face your attacker. Arm yourself with anything available.
