Having a stock pile of supplies and food is not only a smart idea for all of us survivalists, but also for anyone that wants to save money and be prepared for any situation! Today, we wanted to share with you what we feel could be the top supplies/food to start your survival stash.

Where are you going to keep all this food and supplies?

The first step in this process is to decide the safest place to keep your all your food and supplies. If a disaster strikes, do you have easy access to your supplies? Find a place that is secure, dry and easily accessible to you and your family.

Do you have a basement, garage or other location? A basement may be a great place to keep everything. The key is waterproofing your supplies. Also, make sure you have some kind of lock or protection because you don’t want animals or people dipping into your stash.

Top Food and Supplies

If you could only have 7 items of food and/or supplies in order to survive, what would give you the best chance? This list will get you going with the top choices. Drum Roll…

1. Fire Starting Kits

Did you know that hypothermia is actually one of the first dangers people can face following a disaster or wilderness emergency? Finding warmth is a critical step for survival. Be prepared to start a fire. It can be used to boil water for purification, for cooking, and starting smoke signals for help.

By the way, one of my personal favorites for starting fires in emergency situations is the Everstryke waterproof firestarter.

2. Sea Vegetables

Sea vegetables are full of vitamins and minerals and help boost immunity, provide tissue repair and wound healing. They are available in pills or powder form at most health stores. When a disaster strikes and fresh produce is scarce, you’ll be all set while others scramble.

3. Sleeping Bags

You can use these to keep warm, carry things, create a hammock and more. Just remember if it gets wet from weather, it won’t do you any good for sleeping, so your best bet is to get a down sleeping bag with a Gortex liner, to protect from moisture.

4. Weapons

You may need to protect yourself if the time comes and you may to hunt for food when sources become low. Having knives and rope around can be handy for weapons and also for other survival situations that may strike.

5. Dry Bags

Dry bags can be a life-saver, not only to protect your valuables, but also help ensure that you always have a dry set of clothing and a coat in an emergency. Your dry bag items could save you from hypothermia or keep your medical supplies dry and safe.

6. Canned Meat

Having some meat in your diet could be a good idea in a survival situation. If you store some canned meats like spam and some beef jerky, you can be sure that they are fresh and edible when you need them.

7. Rice

It’s extremely cheap and gives a great boost of carbohydrates to help keep your energy up. You can even add it to your canned meat to make a better meal on the survival mission.
